Pilot, commissioner, cleaner, engineer… and now police officer? Sebastian Vettel took on a new hat this weekend, after the Spanish Grand Prix. The German pilot was the victim of a theft in Barcelona on Monday. The thieves stole a backpack containing personal belongings. Sebastian Vettel then embarked on a chase with the criminals, guided by the GPS of his headphones in the stolen bag, Catalan police said on Tuesday.

The four-time world champion, who finished the Spanish Grand Prix in 11th place, was in the Catalan metropolis when his bag was stolen as he got out of his car, explained to AFP on Tuesday a spokesperson for the regional police.

Sebastian Vettel then “pursued” them by activating the geolocation of his headphones which were in the stolen backpack and alerted the police. According to the Barcelona daily El Periodico, the pilot Aston Martin asked a woman who was passing by to lend him her electric scooter, using which he set off after them. The police have not confirmed this information.

The pilot followed their trail until he managed to get his hands back on his headphones which the thieves had abandoned, said the police spokesperson. However, they kept the backpack. Citing police sources, El Periodico indicates that the thieves got rid of the headphones near a store in the center of Barcelona, rightly suspecting that they could be equipped with GPS.

The epilogue of an already complicated weekend for the German driver after an average performance at the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Sebastian Vettel could already be thinking about retraining in law enforcement when the end of his career comes.
