Vettel, three mistakes in one day: “We need to dig deeper”

The Monaco circuit has a reputation for putting man and machine to the maximum of their capabilities. It is therefore correct to write that Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) quickly reached, or even exceeded, the limit during qualifying for the 2019 edition. The German made two driving errors just a few hours after an accident during Free Practice 3 at the end of the morning.

The Scuderia mechanics were kindly thanked by the four-time Formula 1 world champion as he began Q1. Unfortunately, the headaches would quickly return duringa touch with the rail in the swimming pool area. Benin, this contact did not prevent him from progressing to Q2, then to Q3.

During his final timed lap, the wearer of a helmet tribute to Niki Lauda slid towards the rail again, this time at the Tabac bend. Luckily, the car was not excessively damaged and was able to complete its flying lap. However, the fourth final beat (nearly half a second from poleman Lewis Hamilon) had no satisfaction value.

“I think what happened this morning has nothing to do with qualifying, specifies Sebastian Vettel. In the afternoon, obviously during the first two laps you have to get back into the rhythm, but I've been here several times so that's not the problem. »

What is it then? “We struggled with the tires. As a result, you don't have the right feelings. Especially coming from the front axle, it didn't work today. We need to dig deeper. »

Will the miner Sebastian Vettel find the gold of victory on the Rock? It may be difficult but the person concerned takes things philosophically. “We are already working to understand as much as possible. Sometimes it works. We have to accept it even if we don't want to. »
