Vettel: “An open championship”

Sebastian Vettel, at the finish of the Belgian Grand Prix, was delighted. Starting eighth, the German finished on the podium and earned himself six points which will be decisive at the end of the season. Therefore, the pilot Red Bull is satisfied with the balance sheet of his weekend. “ I took more points than everyone else, except for the first two. It is therefore a good operation in the championship. »

Despite everything, Sebastian Vettel recognizes that this race was not easy. “ It was complicated for me, because of my place at the start of the race. When I saw Nick (Heidfeld) go off the track at the first corner, I lost a position. Then, thanks to a very good pace, I was able to regain the advantage. I fought through a fantastic second stint. I made no mistake, I attacked non-stop. It was a pleasure to drive this car, which was fantastic. I was catching up with the drivers in front of me because I was faster than them, even when I had more fuel on board. »

Satisfied with his performance, the Red Bull driver does not shy away from his pleasure of returning to the podium after two races without points. “ It?s a very good result for the team and for me. Compared to Jenson, it?s good to take more points than him, but also compared to Rubens. I have to thank the team because we had problems during the last races. Despite the breakdowns we have suffered recently, we are showing that our engine can hold a race. »

Sebastian Vettel now returns to third place in the world championship, 19 points behind Jenson Button. Although he is still far from the leader, the German driver believes in his chances during this season where the hierarchy is modified with each race. “ This championship is crazy, very open. Anything can happen, there are ups and downs. But you have to stay focused on your goal. I would have liked to win today but third was the best place I could claim. I have to be satisfied with that. »
