Esteban Ocon was on fire at Spa-Francorchamps! The Frenchman finished 7th in the Belgian Grand Prix after starting from 16th place (penalized following a change of power unit). Above all, the Norman was sparkling during the race, culminating in a magnificent double overtake on Pierre Gasly et Sebastian Vettel.
Taking advantage of the DRS and the aspiration of the two single-seaters, the driver Alpine managed to infiltrate on the outside at the end of the Kemmel straight to pass in front of Les Combes. A maneuver which is reminiscent of the legendary overtaking of Mika Häkkinen on Michael Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta, in 2000…

In the mixed zone after the Grand Prix, Esteban Ocon explained his maneuver on his two opponents. “I spoke to Seb [Vettel] about it: I said to myself “the DRS detection is here” and he passed Pierre [Gasly] way too early, Vettel didn’t have the DRS. At that moment, I let off the accelerator a little [in Raidillon] to give myself a small gap and to then be able to use my speed as much as possible in a straight line. I had confirmation that Pierre had DRS. I was able to go to the left side and Seb was very clean, he could have closed the door on the left but he didn't. And I was able to overtake both of them on the outside. »
A little earlier in the race, Esteban Ocon had already produced a nice double overtake, at the exit of Blanchimont. The Frenchman then took over Daniel Ricciardo then Alexander albon, outside the Bus Stop chicane.

Thanks to his 7th place, cumulative to 5th position in Fernando Alonso, Esteban Ocon allowed Alpine to take a good lead over McLaren in the constructor's championship. The French team now has a 20-point margin over the Woking team before going to Zandvoort.
