Vijay Mallya soon to be extradited to India?

Vijay Mallya, who has been a refugee in Britain for almost a year to avoid trial in his native country, could soon be extradited to India.

The owner of Force India, stranded in England after having his passport revoked, is accused of financial fraud and failing to repay several creditors after his airline Kingfisher Airlines went bankrupt. The total damage would amount to more than a billion dollars (or nearly 940 million euros).

India has filed a formal request for Vijay Mallya's extradition to Britain so that he can be tried for the charges against him.

“We have presented to the High Commission of Great Britain the request for extradition of Mr. Bijay Vittal Mallya issued by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigations). We have asked Britain to extradite him to stand trial in India.", said Vikas Swarup, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
