For several months, Canadian students have been marching in the streets to express their rejection of tuition fee increases. Some student strikers from “Maple Spring” recently announced their intentions to disrupt the Canadian Grand Prix.

Villeneuve criticizes Canadian students

Threats that are starting to annoy Jacques Villeneuve, the only Canadian world champion in Formula 1. According to him, the student movement is scaring away tourists who intended to go to the Canadian Grand Prix, thus reducing the economic impact on the city of Montreal.

To avoid any risk of demonstrations on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, the Quebec organizers had decided on the sidelines of the Grand Prix to cancel the Open Day. Day traditionally organized on the Thursday of a race weekend, where spectators can access the pit lane on Thursday.

« It's time to wake up and stop being lazy. This lasted quite a long time. We heard them. We listened. They should stop. It costs the city a fortune. It doesn't make any sense, castigates Villeneuve. I think these people grew up without ever hearing their parents say no to them. This is what we are seeing on the streets at the moment. People who spend their time complaining. It got a little ridiculous. They spoke, we heard, and now it's time to go back to school. »
