Villeneuve: Lance Stroll is too young to have the pressure

Jacques Villeneuve observes with interest the arrival of his compatriot Lance stroll en F1. Felipe Massa's replacement at Williams will be the first Canadian in the premier single-seater discipline since the retirement of the 1997 world champion in 2006.

The Canal+ commentator believes that the reigning champion of F3 European Championship will be able to manage the pressure that falls on the shoulders of young drivers arriving in F1.

“I don’t know if there’s pressure when you’re 18 or 19, declared Jacques Villeneuve to Reuters agency. It comes later when we really realize what we are doing. At that age, you're still in the game even if you approach things professionally. It's not the same kind of pressure as when there is a risk of not continuing to progress in the discipline. »

Lance Stroll has the advantage of being financially supported by his father Lawrence who has almost unlimited funds for his son's career.

“We know he’s fast but we don’t yet know his mentality. How will he react psychologically over time?, asked Jacques Villeneuve. He is in a good team, Williams is a good structure to start with. He will be closely monitored and he could become really good. »
