Virgin Racing still has work to do

Virgin Racing, the first of four new teams to present its car, still has work to do before the Bahrain Grand Prix. The VR-01, designed entirely by computer without going through the wind tunnel stage, still suffers from recurring problems.

Therefore, not a day of testing takes place without the car of Bicester encounters technical or mechanical problems, which considerably delays the work of preparing the stable.

If Virgin Racing speaks of “ minor issues », these are responsible for the fact that the VR-01 is the car spending the least time on the track, compared to the cars of the other teams.

« LThe problem with the gearbox delayed our start in the morning and, once we were ready, it started to rain », Said Nick Wirth, technical director, Saturday evening.

« We took advantage of these changing conditions and the lunch hour to complete a systems check program before Bahrain », continues Wirth.

« We were expecting a more productive afternoon but our lunchtime checks showed us a malfunction which prompted us to replace the motor. »

However, Nick Wirth is not worried and expects a lot from the next fortnight. “ We have developments ready for Bahrain. They were even for Barcelona but following the problems encountered in Jerez, we preferred to concentrate on resolving these problems. »
