Volkswagen in Formula 1 ? The possibility has been agitating the world of motorsport for many months. If nothing has yet been done, the VW group is nevertheless delighted with the direction taken by the FIA. On Friday, the World Motor Sport Council approved the choice of the new F1 engine, used from 2013: a 4-cylinder 1.6 turbo with high-pressure gasoline injection.

For VW, this decision goes in the right direction. “We welcome this choice,” Hans-Joachim Stuck, former F1 driver and VW brand ambassador, told Motorsport-Total. This is not only great news for Formula 1 but for motorsport as a whole and takes it in the right direction. »

If Volkswagen wanted to temper the ardor of its fans, the possibility of an arrival in Formula 1 still seems to be on the agenda. The adoption of an economical engine for F1 and closer to the requirements of production cars could push the VW group to continue its reflection on the subject.
