Williams Racing must recover in Singapore

Back on the podium at Monza, Felipe Massa will struggle to achieve such a feat on the Singapore street circuit. THE Williams severely lacking in aero support to effectively enter the bends of the Singaporean route. The switch to super soft tires even seems to have amplified the phenomenon since Felipe Massa only set the 17th fastest time ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas, behind the two Saubers. “We have progressed according to the planned program, which is the main thing”, tries to optimize Rob Smedley, the director of the Performance department. “We tested different settings and worked on tire management, with some positive things and some not. But we think we have enough data to make progress tomorrow. »

However, Felipe Massa remains concerned about the lack of performance of his mount in Singapore after finishing almost two seconds behind the reference time. “This day was very complicated because we had a lot of difficulty adjusting the balance of the car (like Lewis Hamilton) and we have to find solutions tonight, otherwise it will be a difficult weekend for us. We made progress between the two sessions, but we still need to improve in the final session if we want to achieve a satisfactory result in qualifying. We know that this circuit is less suitable for our car than the other tracks where power predominated, but we did a lot of testing to help us tomorrow. »
