Williams refuses to draw a line under 2019

The first four Grands Prix of the season confirmed what Williams feared from the winter tests where the British team launched its new car two days late: the 2019 campaign risks being very long again for Grove. 

The goodwill and talent of George Russell and Robert Kubica do not carry much weight in the face of the time gulf that separates Williams, 10th in the Constructors' standings with no points, from the rest of the field. However, the deputy director of the team with 9 Manufacturers' titles and 7 Drivers' titles refuses to give up. 

« If you look at our history, we're not the type to give up, replied the daughter of Sir Frank Williams when asked if it was not better to turn the page on 2019 now to better prepare for 2020.  

We know what our place is in the championship and the gap with even the 9th place in the field. We test parts on all races to determine the performance gain they could bring us. We are not drawing a line under the season, far from it ». 

The teams are used to making numerous developments during the Spanish Grand Prix, the starting point of the European campaign. Williams is no exception to the rule but the upset start to the season and the inconveniences in Baku (flat bottom destroyed on George Russell's chassis due to a loose manhole cover, Editor's note) came to disrupt the plans of the British team.

« We will evaluate several components, added Claire Williams. I will not go into detail about their nature. We have other pieces in the pipeline. We need to analyze its behavior during Friday free practice and post-Grand Prix testing. We will then have to reintroduce them into our production system in order to be able to use them in racing. ». 

Suffice to say that Williams is not yet out of the rut…
