Williams, a planned SREC

The stable Williams would still be working on the project of introducing an SREC (kinetic energy recovery system) on its single-seaters. At the start of the season, four teams joined the SREC: McLaren, BMW-Sauber, Williams and Ferrari. Today, only McLaren and Ferrari have kept their expensive system, Renault and BMW having given up on an SREC which had failed to prove itself. Since then, the eight teams united within FOTA have agreed to no longer operate this system during the next season.

But the Williams team, excluded from FOTA at the end of May, has not given up on introducing its SREC. Sam Michael, team principal of the English team, revealed to Motorsport.com that the English team was continuing to work on the project. “ We still have a team working on the SREC but I cannot comment on a date when we will be able to introduce it. » The bet is risky for Williams. As the end of the season approaches, the benefit from SREC will be minimal, especially as the system could be banned next season.
