Wolff: V6 must remain in force in 2017

If the increase in power is still considered in the next technical regulations of the F1 planned for 2017, engines should always be V6s. That's what Toto wolff, the executive chairman of Mercedes Motorsport, confided in the paddock of the Bahrain GP after a meeting held this Friday April 17 in the presence of Charlie Whting, the director of the FIA technical department, and Bernie Ecclestone.

“These engines should reach 900hp in 2017 (compared to around 750hp at present), commented Toto Wolff. “The question is how to present it… simple tools allow you to increase power such as increasing fuel flow (100kg per race currently). We will reach more than 1000hp if we increase it by 10 or 20kg per hour."

Toto Wolff clarified that such a change will not happen without development work. “This requires redesigning important engine components to make them more resistant, which involves development costs important » warned the Austrian.
