It is an understatement to say that the second campaign of Yuki tsunoda (Alpha Tauri) On Formula 1 will not have been flamboyant. With a meager total of 12 points in the championship and a 17th position before the Abu Dhabi final, the Japanese did worse than during his discovery season in 2021 (14th with 32 points).

On the trail of Yas Marina, the 22-year-old driver however returns to the place of his best result in the discipline (4th in 2021). Enough to give him a little motivation while his teammate Pierre Gasly will leave the team on Sunday evening.

“This year we have ups and downs so far. In Brazil the result was not as good as I wanted (17th after an imbroglio with the Safety Car. Editor’s note). So obviously I want to, I hope, repeat the result that I had last year. I have good memories here, so it's already a good way to start the weekend. »

Yuki Tsunoda also draws various positive lessons from this second year in F1, which, even if it hardly brought him satisfaction on the track (4 finishes in the top 10), allowed him to gain maturity.

« I think I have progressed on a general level: the physical side, the mental side and the driving side. I think overall I'm pretty happy, especially now I feel relaxed during the race week. Especially Thursday and Friday, days I didn't know how to approach and I was constantly stressing out, especially last year, rushing everything.

I didn't know how to approach it and I was constantly stressing out, especially last year, rushing everything. This creates a bit of stress and can be frustrating, and it made things a bit difficult for me. But now I can relax and I know how to adapt to any situation. So I have more confidence in myself, and anything that happens, like things I didn't expect, I know how to handle them. So yeah, I think overall this year I'm pretty happy with how I've progressed, every race. And yes, I think I can continue this momentum, or even more. »
