Never two without three. Holder in the ranks ofAlpha Tauri since 2021, Yuki tsunoda still has the confidence of the Italian clan. After two years with the Faenza team, the Japanese has been confirmed for the entire 2023 campaign.

« I would like to warmly thank Red Bull, Honda and the Team AlphaTauri to continue to give me the opportunity to drive in F1, threw Yuki Tsunoda at first. Having moved to Italy last year, to be closer to the factory, I really feel part of the team and I'm happy to be able to continue racing with them in 2023. Of course, our 2022 season is not not yet finished and we are still fighting fiercely in the middle of the pack. So I'm fully focused on finishing it in style and then we'll look forward to next year »

Tsunoda, new leader of AlphaTauri?

With his contract extension confirmed, Yuki Tsunoda positions himself as the potential new spearhead of AlphaTauri. Pierre Gasly at the start, the Nippon could recover the “leadership” within the trans teamalpine and thus get the machine going again after a 2022 campaign where the AT03 was not competitive. Next to him, the Honda protégé should support Nyck de Vries, including his performance at the Italian Grand Prix with Williams has left its mark, particularly that of Helmut Marko, who wants to hire his services.

« As we have seen since joining the team last year, Yuki is a very talented driver and he has improved a lot this season, emphasizes team principal Franz Tost. The pace he has shown recently is clear evidence of a steep learning curve, proving he deserves a place in F1, and I still expect good results from him in the last six 2022 races.

As I always say, a driver needs at least three years to fully familiarize himself with Formula 1, so I'm happy that he has been given time to show his full potential. Furthermore, it is a testament to the confidence of Dr. Marko and his driver program that we are able to bring these young talents from the junior categories and develop them. I would like to join Yuki in thanking Red Bull, AlphaTauri and Honda for their continued support and allowing him to stay with us for another year »

Yuki Tsunoda now has 6 races to prove his leaders right and above all to show that he has the shoulders to carry AlphaTauri in 2023.
