Since the Canadian Grand Prix, the leaders of McLaren do not fail to verbally express their annoyance with Honda and the cruel lack of engine performance.
« We are very respectful of the relationship that binds us to them and, without revealing anything of what is going on behind the scenes, it seemed important to us to clearly and officially express our dissatisfaction, Explain Zak Brown, executive director of Mclaren Group. Hence these ultimatums which express our weariness and which show that we are not inactive."
The two points brought back by Fernando Alonso in Baku, the situation remains very complicated in Woking, Stoffel Vandoorne failing on the points gate and unable to get McLaren out of a last place in the constructors' championship behind Sauber.
« We are currently in last place in the championship and that is unacceptable. This is a situation that cannot continue and we will not finish the season in the position we currently have. »
While a change of engine manufacturer seems to be the most obvious solution for Mclaren, Brown told Sky Sports F1 which Ferrari et Mercedes did not want to help the British team.
« It's unfortunate to be where we are today, and they appreciate seeing us like this. They don't want us to get close to them, which is understandable."
