This is one of the strong images of this 50e edition of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, if not the strongest. While the German classic was in its 4e racing hour, the Vanthoor brothers, Laurens (Porsche 911 GT3R N°1/Manthey Racing) and Dries (Audi R8 LMS evo II N°15/Audi Sport Team Phoenix) had a tough time in the Green Hell. And what was supposed to happen happened.

Very close to each other, the two brothers made contact. Result ? Laurens Vanthoor hit the protective barriers on the right before crossing the track and ending his race in the tire wall on the left. The driver of the No. 911 Porsche 3 GT1R had no other solution than to retire while his younger brother Dries continued on his way.

A few hours after the incident, Laurens Vanthoor spoke for the first time. A notable episode for the Belgian, not at all resentful towards Dries. “ What happened yesterday (SATURDAY) is a nightmare, he wrote on his social networks. I know I'm smarter than that, I know you don't take that many risks in a 24-hour race.

It's painful to be so open in public, but the reason is because I was racing with my brother. My emotions took over and my brain stopped working. We've been competing against each other since we were kids, never backing down from anything and preferring to break a leg than lose to each other. Unfortunately, this competitiveness took over yesterday (SATURDAY). I regret it very much, it was unprofessional.

I have absolutely no hard feelings towards Dries, on the contrary, I am a very proud brother. In the future, we will support each other instead of fighting. Today (Sunday) was a dark day in my career. I will regret it for a long time, but that's how it is, that's life. »
