The Melbourne weekend is always a special event in the Australian Supertouring calendar. The queen discipline of the southern hemisphere is transformed into a sacrosanct support race Formula 1. Relegated to the back of the paddock, popularity for large V8 coupes remains high when we see the enthusiasm generated by the presence of Supercars. There are many marketing operations carried out by brands or manufacturers, we have seen Liam Lawson try his hand at driving a Mustang or even Günther Steiner being carried around in a sandbag by James Courtney.

On the track, the test sessions delivered their verdict. Broc Feeney and Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing) took the first two pole positions here in Melbourne. In the first race, Feeney started alongside Anton de Pasquale (Dick Johnson Racing) while his teammate Will Brown shared the second row with Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United). At the start, Feeney retained the advantage of his pole, but at the first braking Pasquale's Mustang overtook him. The DJR driver took control of the race while Brown managed to keep Chaz Mostert at bay. Before the end of the first lap, Feeney managed to regain first place in the 3rd round of the season. De Pasquale will unfortunately tumble down the rankings, being passed successively by Will Brown and Nick Percat (Matt Stone Racing). Matt Payne (Whole grained Racing) is also opportunistic against the red and white Mustang.
Broc Feeney will complete the remaining laps of the race under constant pressure from his teammate Will Brown, but the young man wins his second race of the season ahead of Brown and Payne. Chaz Mostert made a very good comeback after experiencing some setbacks at the start of the race. In the championship standings, Feeney moves back ahead of Brown by two tiny points. The next time the Supercars take to the track will be in the evening around 23:00 p.m. French time, when we will compete in qualifying for the third race of the weekend.
