The second Australian Supercars race on the Townsville street circuit this Sunday July 10 was marked by an incident between the two strong men of this 2022 season, Shane van Gisbergen (Holden) and Anton de Pasquale (Ford). The latter caught up with the leader of the general classification on the last lap, before making a blunder by harpooning him in the final turn.
The panel of stewards immediately reacted by imposing a five-second penalty on the Dick Johnson Racing driver, allowing Shane van Gisbergen to take his 11th victory of the year and his 65th career. He didn't really hold a grudge against his opponent.
“I'm angry with Anton, but I went to congratulate him on his offensive, declared the winner. ''Congratulations on trying, but what were you thinking? I would have been angry if I had lost the race, but I want everyone to have fun because it makes for a good show on the track.
Shane van Gisbergen has a nice margin of 276 points in the championship over Anton de Pasquale, relegated to second place. “I certainly can't rest...we have to get through Bathurst safely. I'm just going to keep driving hard. »
