The triumph of Triple Eight Engineering is complete on the Bathurst track. Jamie Whincup's men took both pole positions and two victories. Broc Feeney won the race on Saturday and Will Brown gave his new team the second round. However, one man could have ruined everything: Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United). At the start of the race, the paddock troublemaker took the lead over James Golding (PremiAir racing). He is followed by Broc Feeney who made a bit of a mistake in his flight. Feeney then made a small mistake while trying to overtake the PremiAir driver when braking on the long straight. Found guilty of the contact, the young Chevrolet driver will be given a 5-second penalty. This setback will be erased thanks to the tactics put in place by Triple Eight. Feeney placing third in this race.

Leading the race, Brown is now a threat to the sparkling Chaz Mostert. The driver of Mustang number 25 appears to have been found. If during the first round of pit stops everything went well for Mostert, it was not the same during the second stint. As he arrives at his box as leader, the right front wheel of his Mustang proves recalcitrant. Mostert sees Brown pass him as he comes out of the pits. Brown has proven that he has strong shoulders. 10 laps from the checkerboard, he controls the attacks of Mostert who will not find the opening. Will Brown proves that his recruitment, replacing Shane van Gisbergen, is a success: good understanding with his teammate, good integration into his new team. Brown ticks all the boxes at the moment. He is the first leader of 2024 ahead of Feeney and Chaz Mostert.

Ford Mustangs in progress

The big premiere of 2024 shows that certain Ford Mustang teams have managed to raise their level a little. Walkinshaw Andretti United manages to place Mostert twice on the podium. The Tickford just about got away with Thomas Randle's 4th place, Cam Waters completely missed out on his first weekend of racing. The Dick Johnson Racing cars will have to do better to hope to fight for the title. Will Davison is 10th this Sunday and Anton de Pasquale 15th! The good surprises come from James Golding, the Ludo Lacroix effect, the brilliant French engineer, perhaps? The next round of the championship will be held as a curtain-raiser to the Grand-Prix of Formula 1 in Melbourne from March 21 to 24.
