Melbourne – Will Brown wins Race 2

The choice of tires was crucial for this Supercars race, still supporting Formula 1 in Melbourne. In this little game, Will Brown made the right choice, he won ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Matt Payne. Broc Feeney made an error that demoted him to 4th place while aiming for the podium.

Melbourne – Will Brown wins Race 2

Second success of the season for Will Brown ©Supercars

Cameron Waters (Tickford Racing) debuts a brand new car this weekend in Melbourne. After a difficult start to the Bathurst 500, the driver in the black Mustang started from pole position. At the start, Will Brown (Triple Eight Engineering) got off to a better start at the wheel of his No. 87 Camaro. Waters manages to resist Feeney who threatens the Tickford driver. On the 7th lap, the 88 finds the opening and passes Waters. But the next corner, this one trying to pass Feeney again, very lightly touches the car of the Triple Eight driver.

The two men deviated from the trajectory, leaving the field open to Mark Winterbottom (Team 18) who took second place in the race. Feeney limits the damage and quickly takes second place. With ten laps to go, the top 10 is held in just under 4 seconds! The race is very competitive. Unaccustomed to this sprint race format, drivers must take into account the wear of a soft rubber (or even super soft) which they generally have little use for. Feeney is not out of the woods because if he tries to find an opening on his teammate and race leader, he must also monitor the threat represented by Winterbottom and Matt Payne (Whole grained Racing).

On the last lap, Broc Feeney was in difficulty with his tires which suffered badly from his rough race. A small braking error in the penultimate corner and the 21-year-old driver opened the door wide for the Team 18 driver. Payne also managed to settle the score with the young Triple Eight driver. It is in this order that the competitors cross the finish line. Brown is ahead of Winterbottom and Payne.

Feeney is 4th, Cam Waters, the pole sitter, has to settle for 7th place. It was a great operation for Brown who won his second race of the year with his direct opponent not appearing on the podium. He takes control of Supercars with an 18-point lead over Feeney. Next appearance of the Supercars on the Albert Park track, this evening at 23 p.m. for qualifying for races 3 and 4 followed by race 3 at 7:40 a.m. tomorrow morning.
