Blancpain – Alex Zanardi at the 24 Hours of Spa

Alex Zanardi is preparing to take on a new challenge in the face of his disability. The Italian who lost his legs in a terrible accident during a CART race at the Lausitzring (Germany) continued his career in motorsport with talent by racing in cars specially adapted for him.

The two-time Champ Car World Series champion will share the wheela BMW Z4 GT3 at the 24 Hours of Spa (July 25-26) in Belgium. BMW Motorsport will create a car with accessible controls for Alex Zanardi and his able-bodied teammates. The identity of the other drivers and the team will be revealed at a later date.

“I have always dreamed of participating in an endurance event such as the 24 Hours of Spa. It’s fantastic that Jens Marquardt (BMW Motorsport sporting director) and BMW Motorsport are allowing me this.”, rejoiced Alex Zanardi, who returned to the circuits last year competing the Blancpain Sprint Series on a ROAL Motorsport Z4 GT3. “It seems at first glance impossible that a guy who has no legs would ride with “normal” riders at such a level in such a prestigious event. But I know that my friends at BMW Motorsport have the necessary technical expertise and innovative ideas to succeed in this challenge. »

Alex Zanardi will prepare for the 24 Hours of Spa by competing in the Paul Ricard (Var) scheduled for June 20.
