Blancpain, FIA GT Series – The main lines of 2014 drawn up

“Stability is key”. Like every year, Stéphane Ratel took advantage of the 24 Hours of Spa to make some announcements on the future of his GT disciplines, namely the Blancpain Endurance Series and the FIA GT Series. Concerning the first category, the 2014 calendar will remain strictly identical to this year. “It will not change, it is confirmed, you can now note it in your calendars and refuse any weddings these weekends”, wanted to assure with humor the big boss of SRO, promoter of these events.

The 2014 Blancpain Endurance Series calendar:
12/04? 13/04: Monza (Italy)
31/05? 01/06: Silverstone (Great Britain)
28/06? 29/06: Paul Ricard (France)
26/07? 27/07: 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium)
20/09? 21/09: Nürburgring (Germany)

Furthermore, from a technical point of view, all developments will be frozen for 2014 and the delicate Balance of Performance (Bop) will still be carried out in close collaboration with the FIA, even if some modifications may take place under very specific conditions. On the other hand, three new cars will be able to appear on the starting grids: the Bentley GT3, presented for the first time to the world during the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the SRT Viper GT3-R, revealed during the last 24 Hours of Le Mans, and a Corvette C7 GT3 prepared by Callaway, which will succeed, as planned, the C6.

There will be something new regarding the Gentlemen category since from now on only “Bronze” drivers will be admitted. Another measure was adopted regarding the championship. All teams participating in the 24 Hours of Spa or the Nürburgring event next year will not be eligible to score points if they have not previously taken part in one of the first three rounds. of the year.

FIA GT Series: towards two changes of events?

No calendar revealed for the FIA GT Series, discussions taking much longer for this discipline. Stéphane Ratel, however, conceded that two events this season could be replaced by better-known circuits. “We’re thinking about spicing things up a little”, did he declare. Finally, the “Pro-Am” category will change its name and become the “Silver Cup”.
