Blancpain – A royal 2016 platter

The numbers speak for themselves. When certain championships suffer, the Blancpain GT Series continues to grow. 38 cars are thus expected for the first round of the season in Misano in Italy (April 8-10), which will count for the Sprint Cup.

Among the favorites, Team WRT, who already had confirmed its first crews a few days ago, announced the presence of a shock duo on eight of the ten rounds of the calendar with the German Rene Rast, driver of the brand with the rings and winner of the 24 Hours of Spa and the Nürburgring and the Briton Will Stevens, seen at Manor in F1 last year, and who will compete in the World ChampionshipEndurance with the formation of John Booth and Graeme Lowdon.

Le Bentley Team M-Sport should also enter two Continental GT3s, the crews of which have however not been confirmed. We could therefore see the Frenchman Vincent Abril defend his title acquired last year with HTP Motorsport. The German team will also be present with three new Mercedes-AMG GT3.

In the French clan, AKKA-ASP et Saintéloc Racing will be there with Romain Monti confirmed in the Saint-Etienne team. Note also the presence of Rinaldi Racing with the duo Norbert Siedler – Marco Seefried who will compete at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 GT3, without forgetting the Lamborghini Huracán present under the banner of GRT Grasser Racing and Attempto Racing. The BMW M6 GT3s of ROWE Racing and the McLaren 650 from Garage 59 could come and play spoilsport, while the arrival of Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 of Team RJN will be one to watch.

On the Endurance scene, no less than 57 cars are expected to compete in the opening round of Monza in Italy (April 23-24). All the regulars responded: Team WRT, HTP, M-Sport, Grasser Racing, but also A.F. Corse, which will focus its efforts on this championship or the French teams AKKA-ASP or IMSA Performance.

The Pro categories will respectively concentrate 31 cars in the Endurance Cup and 28 in the Sprint Cup, while 31 cars will compete in the Blancpain GT Series in its entirety. Eleven different manufacturers responded to the call.
