The first round of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters will be held this weekend (April 26-28) at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The opportunity for Mercedes, to finally return to the forefront after two years without a title. For this new season, the German manufacturer intends to seek its 16th crown in this category, which would further consolidate its status as the most successful team in the discipline.

This year Mercedes can count on four particularly experienced drivers: Lucas Auer (Mercedes driver in DTM since 2015), Maro Engel (present in the category since 2008), Arjun Maini (4th season for the Indian) and Luca Stolz (winner of the Bathurst 12 Hours in 2023).

The launch of this new year is an opportunity for the drivers to discuss their objectives for this season.

Lucas Auer, Mercedes driver n°22:

“After 2022, some things have changed in the DTM, including tires and regulations. Last year we failed to implement these changes as well as other teams. During the winter we worked hard and identified our weaknesses. It is now a matter of putting this theoretical knowledge into practice and converting it into results. However, I am confident that we will do a better job as a team in 2024.”

Maro Engel, Mercedes driver n°130:

“It is a great honor for me to drive with this fantastic livery which marks our great motorsport heritage. 130 years is an incredible number. Of course, we are also part of this story with the DTM. I like to remember the years legendary with Klaus Ludwig and Bernd Schneider, who was and still is my mentor and whom I encouraged when I was a child. I'm really proud to be able to drive and present this livery. The goal is to continue to develop this incredible story. »

Arjun Maini, Mercedes driver n°36:

“Personally, I learned a lot and improved from race to race last year. I was stronger in the second half of the season. I think we can be even better this year with lessons learned. But of course you never know where you are until the first qualifying session and the first race. We know in which direction we have to work and we are looking forward to the start of the season. »

Luca Stolz, Mercedes driver n°4:

“With the team, I had a very prolific winter. During the official DTM tests in Hockenheim at the beginning of April, we executed our program well. We were able to test a lot of things and achieve what we planned. We are very happy with what we learned, which makes me confident for the season. My dream is to be in the fight for the championship. We have always achieved good results in the past, but only in one race. To play a role in the overall standings, you can't afford to miss out on points on a weekend. »
