C1 -Caldarelli-Mapelli winners in GT World Challenge Europe at the Nürburgring
The adage is well known. A race is not necessarily won in the pits, but it can be lost there. This is what happened to Luca Stolz and Maro Engel (Mercedes) during the change of drivers in Race 1 of the Blancpain GT World Challenge Europe at the Nürburgring (Germany).
Arriving in the pit lane within the top 3, the Mercedes hit Oscar Tunjo's Audi while trying to leave. The race marshals did not appreciate this maneuver, and a drive-through penalty was imposed.
It's a big blow for the former championship leaders, who finished in eighth place. They leave the controls to the winners of the day, Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli (Lamborghini). The Orange 1 FFF Racing crew emerged victorious from a hard-fought duel with enemy brothers Mirko Bortolotti-Christian Engelhart (Lamborghini).
A rare statistic in GT3, only one Frenchman finished in the top 10. It was Simon Gachet, third with Christopher Haase (Audi). The victory in the Silver category went to Mattia Drudi and Milan Dontje (Audi). For his debut in the discipline, Dorian Boccolacci finished 16th alongside Stéphane Ortelli (Audi).
In the championship, Caldarelli-Mapelli are in the lead with 69,5 points. Stolz-Engel follow with 63,5 points and Bortolotti-Engelhart have 51,5 points. Race 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 14:50 p.m. and can be followed live video on AUTOhebdo.fr
