Less than two hours after the victory of Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen) in Race 2 of the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) at the Nürburgring (Germany), it is the turn of his teammate Sébastien Loeb Racing Benjamin Leuchter to lift the winner's trophy on the Nordschleife.
The German, a specialist on this circuit, emerged victorious from an extremely close duel in the first round against the leader of the general classification, Esteban Guerrieri (Honda). The Argentinian was fooled at his own game because Frédéric Vervisch (Audi) overtook him at the start of the second pass. The positions would no longer change until the finish.
Jean-Karl Vernay (Audi) had a perfect race to climb from 14th place to the foot of the podium. The 2017 TCR International Series champion is ahead of Gabriele Tarquini (Hyundai). Aurélien Panis (Cupra) scored the points for seventh position.
Attila Tassi (Honda) retired due to engine failure, while Thed Björk (Lynk & Co) lost big points in the title race after contact… with his teammate Andy Priaulx!
