Enough is enough. Rain and lack of visibility sounded the death knell for the first part of the Nürburgring 24 Hours race. The red flag came out at 22:40 p.m., shortly after the seven hours of racing.
It came shortly after the retirement of Raffaele Marciello. Leader with Mercedes from GetSpeed, the Italian spun before hitting the wall.
The #9 Mercedes also driven by Maxi Götz, Maxi Buhk and Fabian Schiller took the lead on the first lap in the rain. She gave it up to the No. 4 Mercedes of Haupt Racing after four hours of pit stops, when it was time to put on the slicks.
Not for long since the rain returned and the leader made a mistake. His course stopped in the wall. This was the second major twist. Previously, the Konrad Motorsport Lamborghini, driven by Frenchman Franck Perera in third position, had stopped on the side of the track leaving a huge trail of oil. The engine had failed.
These two favorites on the mat, GetSpeed regained its good position in front of an army of Audis. Like the 2019 race, the brand with the rings was waiting for its time. The official car number 1 of Dirk Müller, Dries Vanthoor, Frédéric Vervisch and Franck Stippler is second while the number 29 of Mattia Drudi, Christopher Mies, René Rast and Kelvin van der Linde is third. They took command after Marciello's exit. The No. 3 of Mirko Bortolotti, Christopher Haase, Robin Frijns and Markus Winkelhock completes the podium.
The Porsche and the BMWs are a little further away but still in the game. The Lamborghini eliminated and the Ferrari of Octane 216 in difficulty, it is inevitably a German car which will win this year, once again.
The race will not resume before half past midnight.
