Thanks in particular to Frédéric Vervisch, the No. 8 Attempto Racing Audi R3 LMS GT66 Evo took pole position at Imola ahead of the No. 488 Ferrari 3 GT51 - AF Corse and the No. 3 Mercedes-AMG GT88 - AKKA- ASP.

Attempto Racing on pole at Imola

This is not the Audi we expected. SATURDAY, Attempto Racing took pole during qualifying for the 3 Hours of Imola, first round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, with a cumulative time of the trio Mattia Drudi, Frédéric Vervisch and Kim Luis Schramm in 1'41"799.

At the wheel of the No. 8 Audi R3 LMS GT66 Evo, Vervisch notably set the absolute best time in Q3. It is logical to find an Audi in the lead, since the brand dominated almost all the test sessions.

But we rather imagined Team WRT, still at the forefront this weekend. The No. 32 had pocketed Q1 thanks to Dries Vanthoor. The Belgian team finally finished in fifth place with the No. 31, despite a better time (again) from Mirko Bortolotti in Q2.

Between the two Audis, we find three different brands. Totally transparent during test sessions, Ferrari woke up in qualifying and AF Corse placed the No. 488 Ferrari 3 GT51 Evo of James Calado, Nicklas Nielsen and Alessandro Pier Guidi in second position.

Consistent throughout the weekend and in qualifying, AKKA-ASP took third place with Timur Bogulavskiy, Felipe Fraga and Raffaele Marciello. Porsche, more discreet, managed to place in the top 4 via the Porsche 911 GT3 R n°12 – GPX Racing, driven by Matt Campbell, Mathieu Jaminet and Patrick Pilet.

Note the excellent performance of the Tech 1 Racing team. The 100% French trio Aurélien Panis, Thomas Neubauer and Timothé Buret place the only Lexus RCF GT3 in the field in seventh position and dominate the Silver Cup category.

On the other hand, the Lamborghni Huracan GT3 Evo are less fun. The defending FFF Racing team of the trio Dennis Lind, Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli failed in 19th place and was beaten by the cars of Emil Frey Racing.

In Pro-Am, it was the Tempesta Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo, driven by Eddie Cheever, Chris Froggatt and Jonathan Hui, who took the best time. Finally, the French team CMR, a newcomer to the championship, could not do better than 43rd place with its No. 3 Bentley Continental GT107 of Petru Razvan Umbrarescu – Pierre-Alexandre Jean – Sebastian Morris.

The Gard team takes pole in the Am Cup, with the No. 3 Continental GT108 of Bernard Delhez – Romano Ricci – Stephane Tribaudini.

With twenty-six cars in less than a second and a track on which it is very difficult to overtake, the race promises to be daggers drawn. The race can be followed live on our site, tomorrow from 13:30 p.m.
