The GT World Challenge Asia returns after two seasons of absence. On the program, six rounds await the drivers entered in GT2, GT3, GT4 and GTC. The first stage of the calendar is in Malaysia on the weekend of May 20, with a final scheduled in Indonesia from October 21 to 23. The other four events will take place in Japan, during the Japan Cup, this new competition which is integrated into the championship. It is open to Pro-Am and Am crews in the GT2, GT3, GT4 and GTC categories. Thus, we will be entitled to three new circuits, that of Mandala (Indonesia), Sugo and Okayama (Japan).

Benjamin Franassovici, co-director of the championship, did not hide his joy when talking about the return of the championship after too long an absence. “It has been two years since SRO Motorsports Group last held a race or championship in Asia, so it is important to return with fresh ideas and an exciting calendar. I think the Japan Cup, the new categories and the three circuits making their debut in the championship achieve this. On the one hand, Japan's domestic GT environment is very largely oriented towards endurance racing. On the other hand, the Japanese rounds of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia Powered by AWS, which feature two 60-minute races, have traditionally attracted a large number of local entries.

Our research and subsequent consultations with potential teams suggest that there is indeed an appetite for such a sprint championship. We believe the Japan Cup provides teams with the opportunity to grow their businesses, just as GT3 and GT4 have done in Europe. And because we want to work within the existing market, it seems right to us to accept entries in GT2 and GTC.”
