Hyundai takes on the TCR Series

Si Hyundai Motorsport fait des étincelles en rally for several years with the i20 developed in version WRC and R5, the Korean brand intends to diversify its sports program. The Asian manufacturer has announced the development of a TCR car based on the New Generation i30 model launched last year. The design of this racing car, which began in September 2016, is carried out in the Alzenau factory (Germany) which is also home to the WRC team.

“The start of our first project for circuit racing is a very important milestone for Hyundai Motorsport, commented Michel Nandan, Team Principal of Hyundai Motorsport. The TCR regulation has been incredibly successful and has been launched around the world. By representing Hyundai in these championships, our TCR will promote the manufacturer in motorsport alongside our WRC and R5 projects. »

The Hyundai i30 TCR should be ready for its first tests in early spring and it should go on sale to customer teams next December. It will be equipped with a 2l turbo, a 6-speed gearbox and a 100l tank in accordance with the regulations.

“The Customer Competitions department will be very busy over the coming months with the development of the TCR which will be added to the management of already existing customer programs. However, I know that we will produce a high-performance and very competitive car in the category”, assured the Monegasque.
