Initially scheduled for December 4, the 9H of Kyalami has been postponed to a later date. The detection of a new variant of COVID-19 in South Africa and the various travel restrictions imposed took its toll on what was to be the last round of this season in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The 8H of Indianapolis is therefore the last event this year while waiting to know the new date for the 9H of Kyalami, which will be announced on Monday November 29.
“The detection of the B.1.1.529 coronavirus variant in South Africa, announced on November 25, and the resulting travel restrictions already imposed by several countries will prevent most international teams and championship personnel from traveling to South Africa, can we read in the press release published by the organizers. The local promoter and SRO Motorsports Group, which are jointly responsible for organizing the race, are already working with local authorities to evaluate travel solutions and reschedule the event. A new date for the Kyalami 9H will be confirmed and announced on Monday.”
Before this last round in IGTC, Audi Sport leads the championship ahead of Ferrari in the Manufacturer ranking. And for the drivers, the trio Côme Ledogar, Nicklas Nielsen and Alessandro Pier Guidi (Ferrari) are leaders ahead of Markus Winkelhock, Patric Niederhausser and Christopher Haase (Audi). The 2022 season will start on February 27 with the Bathurst 12H.
