The spearhead will be the Dutch Niels Langeveld, already seen in the World Touring Car Cup with Audi. He will be joined by the 25-year-old Italian hopeful Felice Jelmini, the other two teammates being announced soon.

The last time the SLR competed in Touring, it was with the help of Volkswagen in WTCR from 2018 to 2019. This time, Hyundai will be the associated manufacturer. “The whole team is very happy and enthusiastic to be able to return to competition in Touring Car, explains Dominique Heintz, Team Principal. Even if the development of new projects is enriching and promising for the future, our DNA is performance on the ground.

With this major program in TCR Europe we will be able to compete on the track with other competitors and we love it! The trust shown by Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing is very rewarding for the team. We know that it is a manufacturer who likes to be competitive like us and I hope that this association will very quickly take the path of victories on the asphalt of these European circuits. »

Manager of the competition-client aspect of the South Korean firm, Andrew Johns explains the choice to join forces with the Alsatian team. “Over the past few seasons, TCR Europe has established itself as one of the key championships in the category, attracting a number of highly professional teams and successful drivers from around the world. Together with Sébastien Loeb Racing, Niels Langeveld and Felice Jelmini, I am proud that Hyundai Motorsport customers will be able to become part of this story in 2021.

The team and its drivers all have an excellent track record in TCR competition – both domestically and internationally – and with the Hyundai Elantra N TCR, they have a strong package they can rely on to fight to go seek victories, and perhaps for the championship title. »

Finally, the co-founder of the SLR, Sébastien Loeb, is enthusiastic before the start of the 2021 programs. “SLR has already existed for 10 years! time passes quickly and the seasons come one after another... We were able to ride this winter on the E-Andros Trophy despite the health context, it was great! Now we are happy to see the rest of the season arrive and the return of competitions. The teams here are motivated! Between Touring Car with Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, which I know well, and the Rally with in particular the Clio Trophy where I hope to be able to share my experience with our young drivers, the program should be fun! We are also preparing some surprises for the second half of 2021 to the delight of our fans! »
