While at the Nürburgring, the WTCR was due to proceed with the second round of the calendar, there will ultimately be no race this Saturday, May 28 in Germany in this category. The reason ? Problems with the Goodyear tires, which suffered numerous punctures on Friday, pushed Lynk&Co and Honda to lodge a complaint with the organizers. The two teams had expressed their intentions not to participate in the two races scheduled for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and 12:35 p.m. “ Race 1 and Race 2 of WTCR Race of Germany, scheduled as rounds three and four of the 2022 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, will not take place due to safety concerns » underlines the WTCR press release.

Since the start of the weekend, around fifteen punctures have marred the driving sessions in Germany. Lynk&Co notably complained about the wear of the rubbers with the high speeds reached on the Nürburgring. At the start of Saturday morning, Honda regretted that the problems encountered by their two customer teams had compromised their qualifying performances. “ Honda has a vested interest in the WTCR, at the heart of which is the desire to preserve the integrity of the championship, and therefore regrets that this situation has arisen ", precise the press release from the Japanese brand.
Gutted to tell you that we don't race today. We feel confident to race but the FIA and Good year decided to cancel both races due to safety reasons with the tires. 1/2 pic.twitter.com/x5AP6wDaQb

Faced with this controversy, Goodyear had new tires delivered during the night from Thursday to Friday before qualifying. But Yvan Muller's puncture showed that the problem was not solved by the American company. The majority of drivers respect this decision, pointing out that if safety cannot be ensured in the race, they will not ride. While initially, Lynk&Co and Honda had to do the formation lap and return to the pits. There will ultimately be none of the 17 drivers at the start of Race 1 at 10:00 a.m. and Race 2 at 12:35 p.m.

Most likely a problem with the pressures used, why doesn't Goodyear impose less ridiculously low pressures?
