His race could have stopped during the first “stage” of this Coca-Cola 600. By hitting the wall following a puncture while he was setting the pace of this event from the start, Martin Truex Jr (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota) almost lost everything in the longest event of the season.

Having returned beyond the top 30 after the good work of his team's mechanics to put his injured Camry back on its feet, the 2017 champion nevertheless managed to gradually return to the hierarchy to finally carry out the decisive maneuver on the 397th lap, facing to Ryan Newman (Roush Fenway Racing – Ford), David Ragan (Front Row Motorsports – Ford) and Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing).
