Mercedes enters the Intercontinental GT Challenge all year round

The development of the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC), championship created by SRO in 2016, reaches a new milestone with the arrival of a season full of Mercedes. The German manufacturer is thus la cinquième marque à s’engager sur l’espace d’une campagne, après Audi, Bentley, BMW et Porsche

It seems obvious that the ambitions are high. For the Bathurst 12 Hours (Australia, February 1-3), six examples of the Mercedes-AMG will be entered. Nine drivers, with a contract for the IGTC in 2019, are spread over four stables.

The presence of outgoing champion Tristan Vautier in the company of Thomas Jaeger is nothing new. On the other hand, the arrival of Raffaele marciello (2018 Blancpain GT Series champion), of the two “Maxi”, Götz and Buhk within GruppeM Racing, is worth mentioning, all in a livery reminiscent of a crocodile.

Maro Engel, Luca Stolz (Blancpain GT Series champions Endurance Cup 2018) and Gary Paffett (double champion DTM) join Craft-Bamboo Racing, in association with Black Falcon. The Dutch Yelmer Buurman will also begin its campaign with Mercedes, and the Griffith Corp team. Team Nineteen, Black Falcon.

“We have assembled a great set of drivers and numerically we have the best factory presence in GT3 for the season opener, indicates the head of customer competition at Mercedes-AMG, Stefan Wendl. The IGTC is an incredibly attractive series, with our rivals' efforts increasing compared to previous years. »
