Kevin Harvick takes off

The Michigan oval hosted the Sprint Cup for one of the last races before the Chase. On this circuit, Championship leader Kevin Harvick consolidated his lead by winning his third victory of the season, after winning at Talladega and Daytona. He crossed the finish line ahead of Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing), from whom he took the lead with eleven laps to go, and Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing).

« They were strong and they showed it all day », Commented Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports), who failed in 27th place, despite the good performance of his car at the start of the race. “ All three cars were fast, especially Kevin's (Harvic). They had not won a victory on this type of circuit for a long time and it was the perfect time to win. This must be a huge victory for them. »

The Hendrick Motorsports driver is not wrong since the Richard Childress has not won on the Michigan oval for more than 20 years. Harvick was able to drive intelligently to take the victory at Hamlin, without risking his race. “ When you are faster than the driver in front of you, you have to take your time. This is what I did today », indicated the winner of the race. “ I just tried to pay attention to the car and let time take its course. »

The top five is completed by Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth who allow Roush Fenway Racing to enter three cars in the top five. Juan-Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing), the last winner of Watkins Glen, continued his good streak by placing in the top ten with a seventh place while the reigning Champion, Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports), had to be content with the 12th.
