Kurt offers himself a great victory!

After Kyle's victory last week in Las Vegas, it's the turn of the other Busch to shine, Kurt. The same one who had already won a championship title even before his little brother raced in the Sprint Cup.

This weekend at Altanta, by literally dominating the race from start to finish, Kurt brought back the good memories of his fans. Indeed, under a radiant sun and at the wheel of his Dodge bearing the number 2, he led 234 of the 325 laps of the Kobalt Tools 500, even attacking to the point of tickling the wall on several occasions.

This is his first victory this season, but the least we can say is that it was truly impressive. Obviously much faster than all his opponents, Kurt Busch was untouchable throughout the race, despite the series of interruptions to his disadvantage.

The afternoon was indeed very disrupted, since no less than 10 yellow flags were reported, including one following an unusual event. Jimmy Watts, Marc Ambrose's mechanic, broke the rules by going into the race zone to retrieve a lost tire. The officials immediately initiated a neutralization, disrupting the strategy of many teams, and ultimately decided to suspend the offender for a period of four races.

During the umpteenth neutralization of the day, just three laps from the checkered flag, Kurt Busch still lost the lead of the peloton in the pits and was forced to start again in second position, behind Carl Edwards and just in front of Jeff Gordon. Two drivers also very fast this Sunday.

But when the green flag came, Busch gave Edwards no chance. The Dodge driver immediately stuck into his wake, to take advantage of the slipstream and overtake him on the outside, immediately imitated by Gordon. Edwards finally crossed the line in third place, ahead of Kevin Harvick and Brian Vickers. Clint Bowyer, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Martin Truex Jr. complete the Top-10.

With his foot on the floor, Busch came and rubbed the wall several times, proof that he was not amusing the gallery! Gordon was also at the limit in some corners, as were a good number of drivers on this track, very similar to Darlington, where sliding is an integral part of the race.

With his second place in Atlanta, however, Gordon retains the lead in the championship with 634 points on the clock. He is ahead of Bowyer by 43 lengths and the big winner of the day, Kurt Busch, by 46.

Next meeting on March 22, on the Bristol oval, for the Food City 500.
