Nascar validates Chase changes

Since the establishment of Chase in 2004, the Nascar Sprint Cup has learned to evolve with a season taking place in two stages. The first classic part consisted of 26 races while the last ten allowed the best contenders to fight for the title. This concept is now turned upside down by the organizers who are banking as much as possible on the spectacle by clearly favoring highlights over regularity, even if it means distorting the spirit of competition.

The information revealed by The Charlotte Observer was correct since all the new features mentioned will be applied this season.

– The Chasers list will effectively be extended from 12 to 16 drivers.
– A victory in the regular season will guarantee a place in the Chase (16th place will be reserved for the Championship leader if he has not won a race).
– The Chase will be divided into three segments of three races (Challenger Round / Contender Round / Eliminator Round), where the four lowest contenders will be eliminated each time.
– Each eliminated will leave with 2000 points and the bonus points won in the regular season.
– A victory in a segment will qualify directly for the next segment.
– Points will be tied among the remaining contenders in each new segment, including during the finale at Miami-Homestead (November 16) where four drivers will still be able to aim for the title.
– The champion will be the highest ranked driver among the last four contenders for the Ford Ecoboost 400. No bonus points will be distributed for the greatest number of laps led.
