The first race of the 2019 Chase went to Martin Truex Jr (Joe Gibbs Racing – Toyota), author of an almost perfect race last night by winning the second segment and the final victory on the Las Vegas track (Nevada).
The 2017 champion of the Nascar Cup Series, however, had to wait until the 245th lap and a burst of stops to emerge in the wake of leader Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing – Ford). Truex Jr easily found the opening in stride and controlled the end of the race to win with more than 4″ in advance.
“I knew the Gibbs cars would perform well at the end of the race, admits Harvick. Martin was so much better in the second half of the race. My car would understeer and then drift all four wheels. We did some things this weekend that we probably won't have to do again. I think we can do a little better in the future. »
Truex Jr automatically secures a place for the next round of the Chase, after this success ahead of Harvick, Brad Keselowski (Team Penske – Ford), Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsports – Chevrolet) and Ryan Blaney (Team Penske).
