Nascar – Elliott and Hamlin win the Daytona Duels

Chase Elliott (Hendrick) and Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs) won the Daytona Duels at Daytona (Florida) preceding the Daytona 500.

Chase Elliott, the Daytona 500 pole sitter, won against Jamie McMurray (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Kevin Harvick (Stewart-Haas Racing) after a restart eight laps from the finish and became the youngest driver to win this event. Brad Keselowski (Penske) and Matt Kenseth (Joe Gibbs Racing) rounded out the top five.

“We sometimes go on track without knowing how our car will behave and if it will correspond to what we want on Sunday. I took my chance and it worked and I can't wait to be at the start of the Daytona 500.", said Chase Elliott.

During the second event, it was Denny Hamlin who won ahead of Stewart-Haas Racing drivers Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch, while Austin Dillon (Richard Childress Racing) and Dale Earnhardt Jr (Hendrick) completed the top five of the race. The winner took advantage of a push from the No. 3 Chevrolet to take the advantage over the son of the seven-time champion of the Nascar.

“We had a good car, but the peloton stayed in one line for most of the race, but I was able to make the necessary maneuver thanks to the No. 3 at the end, explained Denny Hamlin. It looks like our cars are doing really well and that's something we'll have to keep in mind for the Daytona 500."
