Nascar – Hamlin offers Watkins Glen

Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) scored his first victory on a road circuit at Watkins Glen (New York) in Nascar Sprint Cup. The pilot of the Toyota n°11 remained in the lead during the last ten laps by resisting the pressure of Martin Truex Jr (Furniture Row Racing) who only took seventh place after being sent into a spin by Brad Keselowski (Team Penske). The 2012 champion finally completed the top three behind his teammate Joey Logano.

The feat is all the more impressive for Denny Hamlin as the Camry driver suffered from significant back pain.

A.J Allmendinger (JTG Daugherty Racing) and Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) complete the top five ahead of Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing). The winner of the 2014 edition secured fourth place by sending his rival Kyle Larson (Chip Ganassi Racing) into the background at the exit of the last corner.

Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports), who replaces the recovering Dale Earnhardt Jr, finished 14th.
