Nascar – Harvick wins in Charlotte with strategy

Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports) appeared to have the best car to win the Coca Cola 600. But the driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet preferred to stay on track when the final yellow flag came out on lap 384. Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing) on the contrary preferred to change his tires for the final restart of the race, which allowed him to take the lead and win with 1”491 over the SS of driver Hendrick. The winner won for the second time of the season and also celebrated his second success at Charlotte Motor Speedway which represented the 21st victory of his career.

Kurt Busch (Furniture Row Racing) took third place ahead of pole sitter Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing). Joey Logano (Penske Racing) completed the top five ahead of Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing), Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing), Clint Bowyer (Michael Waltrip Racing), Martin Truex Jr (Michael Waltrip Racing) and Marcos Ambrose (Richard Petty Motorsports). Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) was just outside the top ten.

The accidents continued on lap 325 with a collision involving Mark Martin (Michael Waltrip Racing, Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports) and Aric Almirola (Richard Petty Motorsports) when the driver of the No. 43 Ford missed his overtake, causing the last race red flag. Brad Keselowski (Penske Racing) also couldn't see the finish of the Coca Cola 600 after clashing with Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing). Finally, Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) couldn't no longer hope for a good result after spinning on the 333rd lap.
