Nascar – Johnson again winner of the All-Star Race

Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) did not increase his lead in the Championship, but his new victory in the All-Star Race sends a strong message to the competition. The five-time Sprint Cup Series champion won the final ten-lap segment on the Charlotte oval to claim his fourth victory in this event where the winner is rewarded with a check for one million dollars. The driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet crossed the finish line 1”722 ahead of Joey Logano (Penske Racing). His second consecutive success allows him to beat the victory record of his teammates Dale Earnhardt Jr and Jeff Gordon in non-Championship races. “Beating Jeff and Earnhardt, two important icons in this discipline, means everything to me”, commented the winner. “I didn’t really think I had a chance of winning starting from 18th, but we had a great race. I dedicate this victory to everyone at Hendrick Motorsports, to every person who works on the No. 48. We are very proud of what we have accomplished, but we know we will have to keep pushing for another one. »

“We just didn't make the best stop to get us back to the front and then lost time behind the other cars. It's like that. We learned a lot today and I hope we will perform well next week for the (Coca-Cola) 600 (contested next weekend on the same oval). » The top five is completed by Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports) and Kurt Busch (Furniture Row Racing) who won the first segment interrupted by a downpour. Brad Keselowski (Penske Racing) saw his race destroyed in the first laps by transmission problems.

Jamie McMurray (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing) won the Sprint Showdown ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr (Roush Fenway Racing), allowing both drivers to qualify for the All-Star Race. The driver of the #1 Chevy finished eighth behind Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Dale Earnhardt Jr while the rookie finished 16th. Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing) was unsurprisingly the third driver chosen by the public but the No. 10 Chevrolet only finished in 20th position.
