Nascar – Johnson resists Daytona chaos

The Coke Zero 400 contested overnight at Daytona saw Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) take his fourth victory of the season (like Matt Kenseth a week earlier) after once again quickly taking the lead. Although the five-time champion led for most of the race, he was never able to create a significant lead over his pursuers, the last part of the event having been marked by multiple collisions. The driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet becomes the first driver since Bobby Allison in 1982 to win both events of the season contested on this oval.

The end of the race was particularly tense with the green-white-checked flag caused by a collision between Marcos Ambrose (Richard Petty Motorsports) and Kasey Kahne (Hendrick Motorsports) who were battling behind the Championship leader. The last lap of the race was marked by two pileups in the peloton. The first came from Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing) while the second came from Danica Patrick (Stewart-Haas Racing).

In the end, Jimmie Johnson won ahead of Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) and Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing), thus giving Chevrolet a nice hat-trick. Michael Waltrip Racing completes the top five with the Toyotas of Clint Bowyer and Michael Waltrip ahead of the Chevy of Kurt Busch (Furniture Row Racing).
