Nascar – Keselowski wins pole in the rain

Qualifying for the Kobalt Tolls 400 was not contested following the downpours that fell on the Las Vegas Speedway. With the 2013 Sprint Cup rules indicating that the 2012 owners' standings would serve as the basis in such situations (until this race before the current standings took over), Brad Keselowski (Penske Racing) inherits the pole on the third event of the season.

The reigning Sprint Cup champion will share the front row of the grid with Clint Bowyer (Michael Waltrip Racing), his closest opponent following the finale at Miami-Homestead last year. The Hendrick drivers follow in second row with leader Jimmie Johnson third ahead of Kasey Kahne. Ricky Stenhouse (Roush Fenway Racing) having the No. 20 defended last year by Matt Kenseth, the Nationwide champion will start from seventh place behind Greg Biffle (Roush Fenway Racing) and Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing). Kevin Harvick (Richard Childress Racing), Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) and Jeff Gordon (Hendrick Motorsports) will complete the top ten in that order.

Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing), last winner in Phoenix, will only start from 16th place. Danica Patrick will have to settle for 37th position.
