Ryan Newman Speaks Out After Daytona Crash

His accident on the last lap of the Daytona 500 a week ago caused a wave of concern. Taken to hospital, in serious but non-life-threatening condition, Ryan Newman was finally quickly released from the Halifax Medical Center.

A happy outcome for the Roush Fenway Racing – Ford driver, who spoke at length on the sidelines of the Las Vegas (Nevada) event last weekend, where he was replaced in the No. 6 Mustang by Ross Chastain.

“I'm sorry I can't be at the track in person, but I've asked to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude for all the support that has been shown this past week for my family and myself , comments Newman.

I want to personally thank everyone, including the person at the top (Roush Fenway Racing President Steve Newmark) for the support, encouragement and many offers of help. We always say that the community Nascar is one big family and that has never been more evident to me after watching this family come together and provide support to my family and myself over the past few days.

The calls and visits from Nascar executives and my friends and competitors were really telling. I would like to thank everyone involved in my care, especially the staff at Halifax Medical Center, where I am confident I received the best care possible.

I am convinced that the efforts of each of these trained professionals played a major role in my current state. Most importantly, I have to thank the people at Roush Fenway Racing who built me a car that was not only fast enough to lead the final seconds of the Daytona 500, but also strong enough to do its job in a complicated situation, and allow me to survive such an accident.

I am truly indebted to each of you and it is unlikely that I will ever be able to truly express to you how much the way you operate has affected me and my family. I hope you are proud of the photo of me leaving the hospital hand in hand with my daughters on Wednesday. Thank you.

I was lucky to avoid any internal organ damage or bone fractures. I suffered a head injury for which I am currently being treated. The doctors have been pleased with my progress over the past few days. I spoke with Jack Roush and he assured me that the #6 car will be waiting and ready for my return. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel and fight for another victory in the Roush Fenway Ford. »

Replaced by Ross Chastain in Las Vegas, Ryan Newman gave no date for a potential return.
