Villeneuve stands out in Nascar

For several weeks, Jacques Villeneuve, in association with Durango, has been trying to set up a team, which he hopes will become the 13th team in the field. F1 next season. Although he is very busy with this project, the 1997 world champion always keeps an eye on the Nascar, a discipline that he appreciates, and in which he always hopes to be able to continue his career.

Last weekend, the Canadian had an appointment with the Nationwide Series, on the circuit bearing his father's name, in Montreal. From the start of the week, the ex-pilot Williams declared that victory was possible. And from the qualifications, the Toyota No. 32 pointed its muzzle at the front. Finally, after a fierce fight, he started from second place on the starting grid, with Marcos Ambrose stealing pole from him for nothing.

“Obviously it’s frustrating, Villeneuve will say at the end of the session. But being on the front line with him (Ambrose, Editor’s note) is fantastic.”

It was therefore with real hopes of winning that the winner of the 500 Indianapolis 1995 took the start of the event. Fighting for the race lead during the 77 laps, Jacques Villeneuve finally finished third behind Boris Said and Max Papis.

“With one more lap, I think I could have overtaken Papis, explains the native of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. It's a shame because the car was really performing well throughout the race. Today I think Marcos Ambrose and I had the two fastest cars on the track. We put in a lot of effort with the team, and once everything worked, I had a lot of fun.”

Jacques Villeneuve now hopes that his performances will not go unnoticed, and that a team will offer him a seat, in order to be able to make more regular appearances in a Stock Car. Now for F1. On September 10, at the end of the next meeting of the FIA World Council, the Canadian should know whether or not his joint project with Durango is retained.
