Nine official Porsche drivers deprived of Nürburgring

Three members of Porsche tested positive for Covid-19 during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As a result, the manufacturer has decided that no official driver will participate in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring this weekend.

“The nightmare of 2020 continues” reacted Kevin Estre, disappointed. Porcsche has decided to remove all its official drivers from the entry list for the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. In question, the positive test of three members of the team present at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

It is a cataclysm on the scale of Porsche. The Ingolstadt firm, like other German manufacturers, places the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring as the main objective of the season. Eight Porsches were expected to compete for victory next weekend. There will be a lot less.

Nine drivers are directly affected by the decision and one car is already withdrawn, the No. 911 of Manthey Racing and its fluorescent colors, driven in particular by Julien Andlauer and Matt Campbell. Manthey Racing was indeed present at Le Mans alongside members of Porsche Motorsport.

Porsche is trying to find solutions to race the other affected cars. The two cars entered in the championship IMSA also see their participation in the Mid-Ohio round this weekend put on hold.

“People’s health comes first for us. Given the current situation, it is very clear that we place everyone's needs above our sporting objectives,” according to Fritz Enziger, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport.
