C’est l’une des images fortes de ce week-end de Porsche Carrera Cup France au Mans : Maxence Maurice et Christophe Stone at full speed overtaking several of their opponents completely in slow motion.

To contextualize the events, an incident after the Mulsanne bend forced the race management to impose a Slow Zone on this part of the route. As they arrive in this section, Maxence Maurice sees the green flag. Without hesitation, the pilot IMSA LS Group Performance removes its limiter. “ I was surprised by this situation during free practice. We worked on this with the team to be ready if it happened again. »

Much more prepared than his rivals, the 2021 Am champion placed himself to the left of all his opponents, still in slow motion, and overtook a bunch of them, approximately “ About ten » according to the person concerned. “ I think this is the easiest overcoming of my life, he joked. » Maxence Maurice finally finished on the third step of the Cup France podium.

Overtaking the two Pro-Ams:

Christophe Lapierre opportunist

In the wake of Maxence Maurice, Christophe Lapierre jumped into this opportunity. Full of experience, the five-time winner of the Pro-Am championship followed the IMSA Performance driver like his shadow. “ I got the news on the radio that the slow zone was going to end. No one reacted but I accelerated immediately. I think I gained six places. » Multiple overtakes which allowed the Martinet by Alméras driver to climb to the third step of the general podium and win in PCCF.

« I am very happy with this result. Being on the podium at the Centenary of Le Mans is magical! My only little regret is not having defended enough on the two leaders (in this case Ryan Ratcliffe and Mikael Karlsson)  because I thought they were Pros. But hey, I won the best race of the year again! » Christophe Lapierre had already managed to win in Sarthe in 2017.
